Atelier Rick Tegelaar
Masterly – The Dutch in Milano
Palazzo Francesco Turati
Via Meravigli 7
Rick Tegelaar (Rotterdam, 1986) graduated with honours from the ArtEZ Arnhem product design department in 2011. Since then he works independently from his studio and workshop in Arnhem. As a material-oriented designer, Rick’s work is characterized by the use of very uncommon materials, finding new beautifully shaped forms with an innovative approach. Rick is interested in how things are made and which machines and tools are used for it. During his design studies he started developing his own processes and tools. The Meshmatics collection is a good example. The start of the project was one of the most banal materials he could think of: chicken wire. He built his own machine to form the chicken wire with precision: with an aesthetic and efficient structure as a result. The material is now shown with a complete new perspective with new possibilities.
